Distinguished Women In Commercial Real Estate

Join us as we hear from three of our own women in commercial real estate as they share insight into the VISION that led them, the Challenges that motivated them and the Lessons learned along the way.



Barbara R. Christy, a member of Schell Bray PLLC in Greensboro, North Carolina
Barbara has extensive experience with acquisition and disposition of multi-family and shopping center properties, office buildings and senior living facilities. Ms. Christy is certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a specialist in the area of Commercial Real Property and served on the State Bar Real Property Specialization Committee. She is a member of PT CREW and is a fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. Ms. Christy earned her BS from Appalachian State University and her JD from the University of North Carolina. She currently serves as President of the North Carolina State Bar.
Heather Matkins, SVP/Area Manager for Pinnacle Financial Partners’ Greensboro region
Before Pinnacle’s acquisition of BNC Bancorp in 2017, Matkins served in the same role for BNC. She began her career in 1980 at Bank of America (NCNB), where she was a branch manager. Later roles included serving as an assistant vice president in builder finance for Preferred Savings Bank, vice president for commercial lending for BB&T and a commercial manager for SunTrust Bank (Central Carolina Bank). Matkins earned her bachelor’s degree from Endicott College in Beverly, MA. She is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University and the North Carolina School of Banking at Chapel Hill. Matkins has served on the boards of Alamance County YMCA, Alamance Rotary Club, where she also served as treasurer, and the Alamance County United Way. She is a former board member for the March of Dimes and the GreenHill Center in Greensboro.
Laurie Ford, Founder & CEO of Ford Revelations, Inc.
A seasoned expert with in-depth knowledge of real estate industry drivers and disruptors, Laurie is accomplished at designing and executing mixed-use, master-planned and residential development strategies that consistently meet or exceed financial goals and outperform competing projects. With over 25 years of real estate development experience, Laurie is is Principal and co-owner of Lomonaco Investments, Inc., a mixed-use and residential real estate development company based in North Carolina’s Triad region. Her unique approach is highly collaborative and places an emphasis on utilizing macro-economic, demographic and psychographic trends, combined with local market and project specific conditions to optimize strategies that produce best-in-class mixed-use and master plan projects.
